Newly Remastered for Blue Note 75th Anniversary Vinyl!
Search for the New Land is an album by jazz trumpeter Lee Morgan. A hard bop set with a group of well-known jazz musicians, Search for the New Land was recorded before The Sidewinder was released and is considered more abstract than its popular predecessor. Although it was recorded in 1964, the album was shelved for two years, then issued with the original catalogue number 84169. It is described by jazz commentator Scott Yanow as «one of the finest Lee Morgan records.»
Recorded in February 1964 at Van Gelder Studios in Englewood Cliffs, Search For the New Land finds Morgan leading a cast of jazz musicians including Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Grant Green, Reggie Workman, and Billy Higgins.
Newly remastered for vinyl as part of an overall Blue Note 75th anniversary vinyl reissue campaign spearheaded by current Blue Note Records President, Don Was.
«Morgan, tenor saxophonist Wayne Shorter, guitarist Grant Green, pianist Herbie Hancock, bassist Reggie Workman, and drummer Billy Higgins are all in particularly creative form on the fresh material, and they stretch the boundaries of hard bop (the modern mainstream jazz of the period). The result is a consistently stimulating set that rewards repeated listenings.»-Scott Yanow, allmusic.com
